Parents, children and smoking

It is very difficult to tell lies your dearest and nearest – to lie to your family. But sometimes you can not help not to do this. You are stupid enough not to understand their sufferings.

My parents discovered my smoking when I was at high school. They were strong non-smokers. At first they thought my smoking was something like a teenage rebellion and tried to find out what affected me those times. Then constant rows had begun, but without success. I regularly made promises to give up smoking and regularly broke them. And rows were started again.

When the twins were born, Mum thought I would finally stop smoking, but she was mistaken. It’s very hard to admit it, but my smoking is the thing that led to cool relations between Mum and me. She just could not trust me any more after all my endless promises.

But the worst was still up. When my twins grew up a lot of problems with smoking arose. Once they found my cigarettes and try to play with them. They asked a lot of questions about smoking: “What are you doing, Mummy?” “We want to do it also”. I tried to mumble that it is a bad thing but they asked “And why you are doing it? Aren’t you good?” I had no words to answer.
